As I was going through all of the links I’ve bookmarked over time, I stumbled upon this letter to the editor by Pastor, Pat Hall. In it, he says we need to “protect” marriage eight different times, yet doesn’t once mention what marriage needs protection from!
This is the closest Hall comes to referencing what he’s fighting to protect:
My appeal to our community is that we protect marriage as a vital part of our tradition and our heritage. I also appeal to those on both sides of this issue to respectfully agree to disagree on this matter yet agree to unite and protect those rights that are so near and dear to our forefathers.
So, tradition and heritage - is that what he’s trying to “protect?” I wonder what Mr. Hall thinks about women voting? Blacks and whites marrying? Al Gore’s creation of the Internet? ;) We continue to evolve and change traditions and heritage, that’s what makes us better as a whole.
To everyone out there that continues to use the “protecting traditional marriage” argument, would you kindly tell us what you’re protecting it from?
Note: You can read more about Pat Hall in older posts here and here.
