Minnesota Vote No Yard Signs

Vote No Yard Sign

There’s been a lot of buzz over the past month about Vote No yard signs! I’ve seen about a dozen of them around the Twin Cities and I’m hoping to see a lot more in the coming months!

If you don’t already have your Vote No yard sign, be sure to stop by any one of the Minnesotans United for All Families offices across the state to pick yours up.

Thanks to Danielle for snapping this picture and emailing it to me – this small step can make a big difference. Talk to your friends and neighbors about why this mean-spirited amendment would be bad for Minnesota and bad for real Minnesotans.

Have you put up your vote no yard sign yet? If you have, snap a picture and email it to me or reply in the comments!

My partner and I live in Owatonna Minnesota and we have only seen 2 vote no signs in yards. We have a lot of friends and supporters in this town but wondering where we can get these signs at. Our family’s and friends are ready to put these up in the yards. If you can give me any information that would be great. Didn’t know where else to start.
    Thank you!!

    • Hi Christine, unfortunately, because of the metal posts required to seat the sign in the ground, they are unable to be shipped. I did some research, and it appears that Rochester is the closest local office near your location. The next time you take a road trip (or one of your friends is down in the Cities, Rochester, etc.), encourage them to pick up a yard sign for you. Maybe encourage them to pick up a few as it sounds like Owatonna could use some!

With all of that said, there is a lot of “Vote No” merchandise that can be ordered directly from the Minnesotans United web site (bumper stickers, buttons, tshirts, etc.)

Thanks for standing up for love and equality and your work to make Minnesota a great place to live!

  2. I am straight but not narrow. 45 Minutes after I posted my “Vote No” sign, my wife got a death threat over her cell phone. This is particularly heartbreaking because someone who knows my wife’s cell phone # left a death threat. Other friends of mine had their signs burned.

Is there any way I can get a larger sign?

    • Michael,
First, thank you for being a great ally and standing up for equality in Minnesota. We need your support, and the support of our allies across this state, if we hope to defeat this mean-spirited amendment.

I’m sorry to hear about your story. If you haven’t already, please ensure you see this post on reporting stolen signs, threats, etc. The post also provides some ideas on how to prevent future signs from being stolen:

As for a larger sign, I’m not aware of anything that has been created. With that said, I’ve printed my own signs to hang on my windows, in my car (keeping safety in mind) and other places where I may interact with people. I would also encourage you to consider picking up a tshirt, bumper sticker or any of the other merchandise Minnesotans United have available to continue spreading the message:

Oh, and here’s one more thought (hopefully, this one brings a smile!)

Thanks again for your willingness to stand for equality, even in the face of negativity from others.

Is there a place where I can get a NO yard sign in the Duluth area. I noticed a yes sign down the road from me and it made me feel so sad and sick. Please e mail me if anyone knows. Thanks

Where do I get a vote yes sign?

    • Hi Tim,
      Thanks for your question.

While I respect that folks may have differing opinions on various matters, this subject is too personal for me not to respond. When we talk about the marriage amendment, we’re talking about something that directly impacts the lives of real Minnesotans. Not only that, it impacts their families and children, too.

Are you married? If so, why did you get married? Was it to celebrate the love you share with your wife and to make a commitment to love and cherish one another? That’s no different than what committed same-sex couples are looking to do. They, too, want to celebrate their love and make that very same commitment.

When you vote yes on this amendment, you’re saying that those relationships don’t matter. That they are “less than” opposite-sex couples – for no other reason than who a person falls in love with. That’s just sad.

I’d like to think that if you were to work with me, go to the same church as me or even just live down the street from me – that you’d find me to be a pretty upstanding guy. Someone that is equally deserving of love and recognition of that commitment as the next person.

My hope is that some day, you will meet someone just like me and these words will resonate with you. Until then, may we have mutual respect for one another even though our opinions may differ.

Oh, and before you go, I’d encourage take a minute to watch this video. I think you’ll see what I mean when I say that love looks the same:

I would like a yard sign and live in southern Minnesota. Where can I get one?

    • Hi Lindsey,
You can pick up your yard sign from any of the Minnesotans United for All Families offices:
      http://mnunited.org/about/offices/

I’d recommend you call before going in as there has been a huge demand for these yard signs since day one. Be sure to also check out MNUnited.org for other gear (t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.)

Thanks for standing up for equality!

Just wanted to share a short story:
My 103 year old Grandmother who is of sound mind just submitted her absentee ballot. She voted NO on the amendment. After 103 years and many changes in her life, she said she has come to realize that everyone deserves to love and share their life with whomever they choose. She states although she doesn’t really understand being gay, who is she to say it is wrong! Bravo Grandma!
